Everything That I Read In December 2019

This month, I’ve hopped aboard the #bookstagram train! I created my own “book account,” @adailydoseofreading to keep up with all the books I’m reading and motivate me to read more. This is a Grace Atwood-inspired post, straight from her blog “The Stripe.”

So, below are all of the books that I read in December! Not all of these books came out in December, or even this year, but they’re books that I wanted to read for a very long time and finally got around to reading them. I’m trying to read more and more books in the new year—these posts may be longer and filled with more content!

Fifty Shades of Grey (Book One) by E.L. James

4.5/5

This book—this book, this book, this book. I’m completely and utterly shocked after reading Fifty Shades. If you love the movies, you will loooove this book. I’m not going to say anything about this because, well, I think the title speaks for itself. The only thing I will say is that it’s VERY descriptive—even more descriptive than the movie, and that it is a bit slow in parts, but that’s only because it gets really, REALLY exciting in other parts (aka scenes they don’t—or can’t—include in the movie).

When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger

4/5

I found this book in early 2019, and I wanted to read it, but you know what’s weird about me? I only read paperback books. Idk why, but I prefer paperbacks over hardcover books. And when I found this book when it first came out, it was only available in hardcover—so I waited. And then I sort of forgot about it, I wasn’t really hype about it. But I was wrong! A “sequel” from the Devil Wears Prada novels, this book is based on Emily Charlton, Miranda Priestley’s first assistant. She is now an image consultant to the stars in LA and after a few of her clients dropped her, she makes the transition out to Greenwich, Connecticut and temporarily moves in with her old camp friend Miriam, who’s a former lawyer and now wife and mom of three. There in Greenwich, she takes on the client Karolina—whose husband just left her with nothing, after an alleged DUI. It was an interesting read, especially if you like pop culture-related things and The Devil Wears Prada novels. You will sink your teeth into this book while you’re sitting on your West Elm couch in your Lululemon leggings. I finished this novel at 4:30 a.m. on a restless night. It was definitely worthwhile!

Game of Thrones (Book One) by George R.R. Martin

4/5

THIS BOOK. While it is dense and hard to get through, I can hands-down recommend this book to the avid reader. I watched the show before I started reading the book, but I didn’t finish in time for the eighth season finale. On the show, my favorite character was Tyrion and no surprise here—he’s still my favorite character in the book. Reading his chapters (the books are set apart by different characters’ POVs), I laughed out loud a few times. He’s smart, clever, and cunning. With him, the other characters (Arya, Sansa, Daenarys and Jon are close in second place), the romance, the action, the war, the fantasy...this book (and series) is for anyone and everyone. I’m powering through the second book in the series and can already say that the second book is better than the first.
